Manual Lymphatic Drainage
Gentle, Rhythmic Therapy Supporting Lymphatic Flow and Wellbeing.
Manual Lymphatic Drainage, commonly known as MLD, is a specialised gentle therapy using slow, rhythmic and precise movements designed to encourage the movement of lymphatic fluid.
Unlike traditional massage, MLD generally uses very light pressure because much of the lymphatic system being targeted lies close to the surface of the skin.
What Happens During Your Appointment?
Before treatment, your practitioner will discuss your health history, medications and reason for requesting MLD.and rhythmic movements performed in a specific sequence. Your comfort, dignity and privacy are maintained throughout your appointment.
Is MLD Suitable for Everyone?

This is not an exhaustive list. Your individual suitability will be assessed before treatment. If you develop new, unexplained, painful or sudden swelling, medical assessment should be sought rather than booking MLD as the first course of action.
MLD may be unsuitable or require medical clearance in circumstances including:
- Acute infection or fever
- Certain kidney conditions
- Unexplained or sudden swelling
- Suspected blood clot or thrombosis
- Other significant medical conditions
- Certain uncontrolled cardiovascular conditions
After Your Treatment
Your practitioner will provide appropriate aftercare based on your individual circumstances. This may include maintaining normal hydration, gentle movement and following any existing medical advice.
